design opportunity

Koreans often face challenges when working in their living rooms due to tall sofas, making it uncomfortable to use coffee tables. The solution addresses this issue by providing a more flexible seating option, in line with Korean cultural preferences for ground seating, providing more freedom to their preferred sitting position.

inspiration

The design draws inspiration from the Talchum a cornerstone of Korea’s traditional dance heritage; the chair’s aesthetic is a homage to the rhythmic movements of fabric inherent in the dance. The chair’s wooden frame, intricately carved to mimic the dynamic energy of the Bongsan Mask Dance, does not boast technological advancement but instead captures the essence of movement and the creation of wrinkles, inviting users to appreciate the beauty of tradition in a contemporary context.
